Certificate in Paralegal Studies
The Certificate in Paralegal Studies is designed to offer training to beginning as well as advanced legal workers that will help them to assist trial attorneys, interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, and assist in preparing courses for courtroom litigation. The Certificate in Paralegal Studies includes the following components:
• Introduction to the Legal Process
• Sources of Law
• The Role of Precedent
• Structure of the Court System in the State of New York
• Issues of Jurisdiction and Functions of Each Court
• Ethical Considerations for Lawyers and Paralegals
• Fundamentals of Civil Litigation
• Fundamentals of Criminal Litigation
• Fundamentals of Real Estate Law
• Fundamentals of Family Law
• Fundamentals of Corporate Law
• The Process of Legal Research
Classes are held every Saturday and run for 12 weeks. At the completion of the course students will receive a certificate from Brooklyn College.
